I have no idea why, but I've always felt inspired to create art when seeing and hearing Edward Van Halen play his guitar. I think it might be because of the feeling I experienced when watching him play: it was as if he truly conveyed, through his gestures, attitudes, and musicality, how much he genuinely enjoyed what he was doing. I guess that's what has always inspired me, I can conclude now. His loss was terrible, both for his family, friends, and fans, but also professionally, in terms of inspiration, which motivated so many artists to continue in music. In my case, to continue in illustration.
Below, I imagined a tribute to the musician illustrating the cover of a music magazine. An old piece of art I did, but with the intention of eternalizing Ed's, Eddie's, Edward's iconic presence!
Eddie Van Halen has always been a source of inspiration and motivation for drawing and illustrating. Go figure: I wasn't inspired to play the guitar, but rather to draw more and more. Below is the sequence of how this artwork was produced, which was featured on a former, now deactivated, digital art website.
Currently, I divide my time between traditional and digital art. The latter offers great versatility and increased productivity, but in terms of connectivity and engagement with the artwork, the traditional approach is unparalleled.
I never knew if Eddie Van Halen had the opportunity to see this artwork. Perhaps one day I'll meet his son, Wolfgang, and find out if the eternal king of the guitar liked this representation.
